PP is right...it’s the uncertainty of the city-wide lottery process. The schools are a mixed bag and you win the lottery or not. The two exceptions are at high school there is a performing arts school you audition for and Lowell which is an is an advanced academic program you test into.

Not if you can help it! The leadership is obsessed with equity to the detriment of everything else, incompetent, and lazy.
Live in east bay if you want good schools and access to the city.

We live in SF and my daughter has only gone to public school. She's currently in 11th grade.

Quality wise, they are all over the map. The problem is there is a city wide lottery for schools so just because you move to a certain neighborhood, doesn't mean you get to go to that school.

Is it an option? I hear stories about it being really bad but I hear those same stories about DCPS which actually has quite a few schools of high quality at all grade levels. If you're living in SF, does one want to assume they need to pay for private school in order to get a high quality education or are there public options?
