This. Although depending on how new my tires are, I sometimes just switch out two.

Can the nail hole be patched?

If it can, look at the tread and make your own call or get a patch and get an opinion from someone you trust.

If it can’t I can see maybe buying two tires.

Do a lot of city driving? I always seem to have to replace my tires around 20K miles.

Not AWD

High end cars needs new tires every 2 years/20k miles.

My Mazda's original tires didn't last me that long, but they were replaced based on tread, not age. The one thing on my Mazda, now at 75k (and 10 years old), is that I have replaced a lot of tires -- the first crappy ones were replaced at about 25k, (4 tires), then a nail right after (tire number five) and then at about 65k I had a nail and low tread at the front (tires six and seven), then another nail on one of the back tires, so we replaced the two backs (tires 8 and 9). So the tires have been annoying, but the flip side is that tires have been pretty much the only things that aren't lasting on that car, except for the window gears -- older ones were made with plastic, but they replace it with metal -- replaced both front window gears, because when the window stops working, you better hope it's stuck up and not down.

If it is AWD, yes, replacing all 4 would be recommended.

Got a nail in a tire...tire places recommends replacing all 4 based on age not tred. Legit or ripping us off?
