Three days is traditional.

In Muslim countries celebrations do span 5 days, but in the US it's usually just one day - this year it's Sunday.

Under normal circumstances the kid could reasonably have guests visiting and multiple events spanning two weekends, but it's unlikely this year.

Well, I am already giving them until after Tuesday, so I suspect this is just an all too common attempt at an excuse. Happens all the time with all kinds of reasons!

Thank you for your input, I appreciate it and I understand that it is different in different countries and subsets. I am trying to understand if there is ever any way that it would span 5+ days, because I can't find evidence that that is the case.

Technically day begins at sunset the night before. It is officially one day, the first day of the month of Shawwal. However in Muslim countries it us often celebrated for three days.

In the DC area most people will celebrate tomorrow, Sunday May 24th.

Different countries celebrate differently, but in my country it’s a two day celebration. This year it’s Sunday (tomorrow) and Monday. Hope this helps!

How long does Eid Al Fitr last, and when when does it begin and end?

I am having trouble finding this information and want to be culturally sensitive to a student who is asking for an extension on an assignment (the assignment takes 1 hour and the student has 5 days to do it and I want to be fair but I don’t have the information I need to make a determination).
