There is a very real prospect of schools closing for the entire fall semester. They already said in my neighbor's govt agency that they will stay closed for the entire summer and will only open up when they basically are no longer required to wear masks. That means until a vaccine, which will be at least way until 2021 at the earliest, and that's only if they're successful in development. It'd look very, very bad for mcps if govt agencies and universities are shutdown still yet mcps stays open and a single kid gets a coronavirus complication like the Kawasaki's syndrome that's been afflicting kids.
Because "distance learning" instead of school, for kids, is exactly like telework for office workers? It's not. I honestly don't understand where people get the idea that it's ok to shut down schools for years.

Our governments have told us they don’t plan to fully reopen schools until there is a vaccine. But you have respected officials and organizations saying that could be years from now.
If you live in the DC area, you need to prepare yourself for distance learning until fall 2021.
Where have our governments told us this?

Tons of parents admit their kids are basically learning nothing while trying to learn remotely. But what now that there is a very real potential for this to drag all the way to the summer/fall of 2021? A vaccine, even if we assume one is made, will take until then. We should also anticipate a second wave in the fall this year. Universities are already telling their students that fall semester on campus won't happen. It is highly likely that it will be the same for public schools. Is this going to require kids to go to summer school over several years so that there will be school for 12 months to catch up? They may have to eliminate summer breaks for a couple years to fix deficiencies in learning progress from what's basically little schooling for 1.5-2 years.
No, there isn't.
The first day of school in MCPS is August 31. That's 100 days from now. 100 days ago was February 13. How much were you worrying about coronavirus on February 13?
Lots of things can happen in 100 days.
Universities are already shut down for the fall. Only a matter of time before mcps follow suit. Wave 2 in the fall will happen just like the flu. The Spanish Flu actually killed more people during wave 2 in the fall than its initial outbreak.
Coronavirus is not influenza virus, and 2020 is not 1918.
