That’s also based on a 700 sq ft classroom. Mine is 500...21ft by about 24ft You can’t fit 10 kids in there with 6 ft distance and space between. But at least they pulled floor plans instead of just making it up!

i think the ralith is that many parents are going to have to sacrifice to pay for childcare for school aged kids during this time. Stop retirement savings if needed for the year, stop college savings. That or we leave our kids home alone. Most jobs will be back in person by fall but kids won't.

No, but for how long has school been compulsory for K age and above? Our society has not been set up for a parent to be at home full time with school age kids for any time in recent memory. I never worked out our budget to include a full time nanny for school age children and we spaced our kids to never have two in daycare at the same time. Even if we shifted what we used to pay for one in daycare, it would never cover the cost of full time care for two kids now.

I really hate the argument of school not being childcare. Of course it isn’t. But there are pretty much zero options for any childcare for school age kids at this point in time, even if people want to pay for it.


I agree. And I'm a teacher. Of course school is more than JUST childcare, but all of us who are working parents count on it (during the school year) to also function as childcare so we can work.

Also, distance learning is not working at all for my kids (all under age 7). They aren't learning anything despite our attempts. So while I guess something is better than nothing, I am not sure how long we can just ignore kids really not learning anything (and I realize my kids have a lot of advantages that many other kids do not).

As long as there is not some silly 6 day schedule then we'll adapt. There is no perfect, or even good, solution Our children are not learning right now and that needs to be the priority.

For me I feel like that one would be harder to plan for, if you need to be in the office weekly for meetings. Unless you have a flexible work arrangement that allows face time every third week..

Out of the three options, I like the 2 days per week more than the 1 day option and the full week every third week option. I mean, all are horrible for working parents, but that one seems like the lesser of the evils.

Newsflash...that's EXACTLY what school is. You think it's for an educated society? False. It's so kids have somewhere to go and eat and be supervised each day.
