Yes, of course if they could keep/bring in income they would survive.

And they have a list of online classes. Maybe they will do that only ?

Um, they don't have to give you a credit let alone a refund for the robust online options. Can you go to the other location?

Umm....can I point to the part where I think they should have returned our tuition money this spring vs. the “credit” we accepted on good faith they would be around in the fall?

It's the rent and insurance. The prices don't allow for much savings in a highly competitive market.

I suspect that the issue is that even if they can make it a few more months, they likely wont be back to business for real for at least a year. There's no real benefit to hanging on longer if they can't last until there is a vaccine and the world fully reopens. Hanging on until the last dime would also mean that they wouldn't have money to reimburse families, which will leave a sour taste in everyone's mouth. If they do give refunds now they may be able to start anew post-pandemic with community support.

Close in places are really in trouble. They are getting no rent relief in high rent areas and are looking at 3-5 months with no income. Recital season has been cancelled so that is lost revenue when costs for hosting recitals had been sunk and unrecoverable. I know of two MD studios that have closed for good and expect many more.

Part if it is the PPP loan comes due while they are in their summer low enrollment period. They are also likely to be forced into another closure in the 2nd wave. They are an indoor activity so considered high risk. Parents in my circle are demanding refunds even though places have offered online classes...so negative income or pay legal fees to defend the lack of refund. I think the places in Moco are done for with the extensive closure.

There is going to be an avalanche of dance studios and other kid activities closing.

I just got an email that Adagio Ballet in Arlington is closing permanently. This is disappointing given that it seems to be a mainstay in the community. They say they will return camp deposits until the money runs out, though it doesn't seem they know if they have enough money to do so.

This is the first complete closure I've heard of locally for a kid activity, but it seems likely that the local martial arts and gymboree places will also be closing as there doesn't seem to be any way to host these activities safely.
