Op here. We were on the way and thank goodness I checked the website while driving. I called and it is indeed for residents only. We ended up exiting and going to a park in Alexandria. We are enjoying the lovely weather.

We tried to go to north beach last week and it was closed. Looks like the boardwalk is now open but fishing and beach are still closed?

North and Chesapeake Beaches were both closed last weekend (and also before the Governor's stay at home order). I'd check before venturing out

Calvert Cliffs is awesome for shark tooth hunting and I’m sure your older kids would enjoy it, but pushing a stroller down to it would be a pain in the butt.

As for sandy point, they usually have bathrooms but I imagine they aren’t open.
There’s a Wawa about a mile away that’s open so you could drive there - I’m assuming their bathrooms are open since they’re letting people inside, but I’m not positive.

Op here. We are currently potty training. When we leave the house, I put a pull up on her. When we go on walks, I take the portable potty with us.

When I have to go, I just wait until I go home. We go on short outings.

Question about Sandy Point... if everything is closed down, where do you go to the bathroom around there? Do any takeout restaurants let you use the bathroom?

IMO Flag Ponds is far superior if you have little kids. As another PP said, the walk to the beach at Clavert Cliffs is really long and the beach itself is a pretty narrow strip along the cliffs.

There is a hike to the beach at Calvert Cliffs. I think it's 1.5 miles, not sure. Bring a jog stroller for the toddler.

It’s a long walk to the beach. I would not do it without a stroller.

Every time I've ever been to Sandy Point it's been packed by 930 am. I wouldn't go right now.

We went to Flag Ponds a few years ago with our two young boys. Now we have 2 elementary boys who love to fish and a toddler. We usually push her in a stroller but she can walk. She isn't the most reliable walker though and often we have to pick her up and she is getting heavy.

Is Calvert Cliffs a good place to go as a family?

We want to go as a half day trip from the Northern VA. OC is too far to drive to. Looking to go somewhere closer.

Can you recommend other closer places?

I know one other option is Sandy Point Beach by Annapolis. Trying to find a place where older kids can fish and I can walk around the beach with a toddler.
