You could have asked her if everything was okay when she told you that "there was an accident". For me, I would have figured something bad happened. For you, well....you just seem to assume the worse of people and frankly you are still doing it. "Teen sitter PURPOSELY..."

What?? Why int the world do you think she purposely misled you? If she was trying to mislead you it would have been the other way around - thinking that it was a big deal when it really wasn't.
I don't see anything wrong with what she sent and it sounds like you were a jerk when you shouldn't have been.

You sound stressed and took it out on her. 35 minutes late given the circumstances sounds pretty good. You need to apologize.

But curious where she was that her mom was picking her up (and on crutches). She clearly wasn't home. Is it safe to have a teen in your house who has been out and about?

Being rear ended is the same as “there has been an accident”. I never use the term rear ended because growing up my other was of the mindset to jump to who was at fault if she heard that phrase.

You should apologize, of course. You were a jerk, probably stressed about your conference calls and weren't thoughtful enough to ask any questions that would have given you more information. You're probably intimidating to the poor girl and she was terrified to tell you she would be late so used as few words as possible. Be more approachable and you'll get more info.
