I think is not an American thing.

It would be considered a Jersey Shore, gold digger, tacky type of thing. Probably a woman who is not married would push for this.

Never heard of this. What is it, to reward a woman for giving birth? Stupid.

Ridiculous and mercenary.

It is a relatively new phenomenon among a small and gross sector. Maybe transactional trophy wives..or someone who is obsessed with those housewife reality shows...but certainly not your run of the mill or classy American family.

I think it is kind of gross, TBH.

+1.

It’s not an American thing, just a certain kind of woman thing. I didn’t expect one, my sister did. OTOH, I am pretty sure that BIL expected her back to her pre-pregnancy weight and working full-time by the time their baby was 6 months old, while my husband just wants me to be happy and have sex with him regularly.

If you married the kind of woman who expects a push present, then you should get one. You likely have high expectations for her as well.

Push presents are stupid and tacky. Not all Americans expect one. It is not a widespread part of American culture. Only in certain circles. Figure out if your wife actually expects one.

I think in the face of what's likely to be an intense recession, and with all the expenses of having a child, you really shouldn't spend very much here, if anything.

As far as I knew the push gift comes at the birth...not months after. Your wife and her friends are just greedy.

Push gift seems ridiculous to me. Is it a reward for delivering a man's heir?

$1000 - $2000 item.

We just had our first and wife and her friends talk about a push gift.

We don’t do this in my culture, and I don’t love the idea but I am not going to disappoint.

What is the expectation here? Is it a 500 item or a 10,000 item? I have no idea.

Thank you.
