This looks accurate to me. If your 04/22 hadn’t already done ID camps and-or gotten interest at showcases, it’s going to be a really tough haul. If your 04/22 HAS already done camps and gotten interest, might be easier but only at D1 schools whose women’s soccer programs are secure. Do you think those are Ivys and top 25s and schools who’ve already cut men’s soccer and need women’s soccer to balance football for Title IX?


Yes. And read this so you know the latest on rules. The vote allows D1 schools to spend less than required previously on scholarships to be D1. This means smaller sports (diving, track) may offer less scholarships or money. Women’s soccer and basketball would be last hit here most likely as they are top girls D1 sports. Also, the request from non power 5 schools to remove requirement on number of sports required was denied. The best way to read this is power 5 schools are best bet for an offer with money.

What does quasi club mean? In your point #7.


Sorry. Good question. On “club” comment it’s not about quality of play. Lots of talented players go D3. It’s that they don’t offer scholarships so often players choosing the school on academics first (most D3 are liberal arts academic powerhouses like Washington Lee in VA) - and the programs don’t rely as much on funding from football revenues.

What does quasi club mean? In your point #7.

In all seriousness, if colleges are closed in the fall, there are bigger issues than recruiting. If schools don't get revenue from football and basketball revenues are delayed, athletic budgets at the most profitable Power 5 schools will need cutting.

Jeff-cup is not going to happen in July. I wouldn’t bet on any fall showcases. The most likely outcome is that 2022s who were on the radar before COVID will be in discussions over the summer and fall. Those who were not previously looked at will be scouted next spring - when the showcase will restart. While official visits may still take place this fall, ID camps will likely start up in the winter. While it’s clear you want to pump up FCV and VDA, coaches care about players not teams. Coaches have been scouting top players in the region since their freshmen and sophomore years. Players have been shifting teams a lot over the past couple of years, coaches know this and don’t care too much about the team - only that it competes at a high level. Unfortunately, 2021 girls who are not actively engaging with coaches now will likely be out of luck at the prestigious D1 academic schools and strong D1 soccer schools. They’re best bet right now is to look a regional D1 options or D3 schools.

I think 2022 03s are at a comparative scouting advantage right now compared to 2022 04s. When play resumes, hopefully shortly, I think 03 games will be heavily attended because 2021 classes need to be finished and 2022s will be taken quickly. I'm also partial to ECNL right now because I know scouting budgets will be spread thin and coaches will have to maximize the impact of showcase attendance.

I'm not sure you can reliably draw too many parallels from 2021 experiences since COVID has really changed the landscape. All schools and players have lost alot of scouting opportunities, and as a result there is a backlog of 21's who are not yet committed. My understanding is there is alot of ongoing communication there. If you believe the recruiting experts, college coaches will be eager to start communicating to their 2022 prospects fairly promptly after June 15th and into the summer and fall in an attempt to narrow their lists and get back on schedule forming their incoming classes.

I have an 04 who has some strong interest from a D1 program. The coach has been communicating with her coach and has recently requested full game film.

It appears that some programs do intend on beginning conversations with 04s as soon as possible.

Also highly recommend that your 03s and 04s keep communicating with the colleges they are most interested in. Send emails stating they are still very interested in their program, send links to their highlight films.
