Two week PP visit is not always typical except for C section, FYI.

My OB required it, and I had vaginally births. She’s a good doctor, and doesn’t take insurance. My guess is insurance wouldn’t pay for “unnecessary” 2 week appointments.

Which is BS, because most women who die post partum are dead by six weeks. It’s too late by then. And most insurances will cover the two weeks visit, which is a huge reason other rich countries have lower maternal mortality rates. Call and ask.

Agreed. Worth it to ask. I've always thought it odd that some practices wait 6 weeks to check up on mom's health.
The hospital based CNMs who delivered my DD do both 2 and 6 week appointments. My insurance covers both.

I went a few weeks ago. It was anxiety inducing but totally fine. Just wear a mask, bring wipes or something for door handles and elevator buttons and you’ll be fine. My OB did kindly ask how I felt about leaving the house and being there.

I just did my postpartum visit virtually (with GW). My OB asked a series of questions, and based on my responses did not think it was necessary for me to be seen in clinic. I also had a c section for what it’s worth. Yes, I would have felt a little better being seen in person, but this seemed like a reasonable solution given the times and I have no doubt that if my OB were worried about anything that she would have had me come in for a physical exam. Hope this helps — I also agonized over what to do!

You should ask them but I suspect they will want you to come in for that one and I would go with their advice.

i went in person. OB checked the incision, vagina, breasts. i feel it could not have been done virtually and it is important to know all is well before resuming exercise, sex etc.

You should go in person to be checked out. Your ob should have checked you at 2 weeks.

Go.

I delivered 2 days ago. I’ve been instructed to schedule a 2 week telemedicine checkup and the usual 6 week follow-up in person.

Yes you can’t tell that you are fully healed without an examination.

You should definitely go for the examination to make sure you are healing, etc.

I would go - there is only so much they can do over the Internet, and it is critical that you know things are okay before resuming exercise, sex, etc.

My 6 week pp appt is scheduled for next Monday and I’m really on the fence about it. I feel very confident that my stitches are all healed up and don’t have any major concerns, and the appt is in the hospital (Sibley). Is it dangerous to request that it be virtual? What are others doing?
