I adore 1950s kitchens.

I have a perfectly nice kitchen in the style of Standard 2010s Flip -- white shaker cabinets, stainless steel appliances, granite countertops etc. I'm dying to rip it out and put in something with a little personality. I'm thinking full retro -- mint green or red appliances (the funkier the stove, the better), checkerboard floor, pastel-painted cabinets. Exactly how much would that tank my resale value?

funky color cabinets is fine, dark color like crimson, blue, green, retro fridge is fine, but anything else NO!

I like it but feel like I would get tired of that quickly.

Yeah. When I see the busy patterns that the design shows recommend for kitchen and bathroom floors, I'm just like...have you people never had a hangover? The last thing I want to see in the bathroom in the morning is dizzying tile. Also good point from a previous poster about black and white being the worst of both worlds when it comes to cleaning.

Your picture is fun but it's over the top. I'd tone it down. Do the mint cabs and retro appliances but pair it with neutral counters and backsplash. And skip the wallpaper. That would get gross in a kitchen anyways.

Dream stove. Swoon.

Maybe leave the cabinets, counters, and floors alone. Just switching out appliances could achieve the desired effect?

+1 I'm a sucker for retro but this example is eye-melting.

Don't do it. No one will want to buy it.

I had a floor like that once and hated it. All the worst attributes of light and dark floors. It needed to be swept and mopped constantly.
Otherwise I love the kitchen and have that table

I like the retro look. If it makes you happy do it. I've consider red or pink appliances and may when our oven dies.
