At 6 they now have a bike with gears and are far ahead in terms of riding ability than any of their friends, including older kids. Is it the bike? I don't know, but it certainly didn't hurt! Also, they have a buy-back program when you exchange your kid's bike for the next size up. Their customer service is amazing and we've been really happy with the bikes we've gotten so far.

My kid rode 2 wheeled bike without training wheels when she was 5 without a balance bike or a zoom bike. Took about 45 mins of practice and she got it.
