I’m having a baby in late June and two days ago I found out that my two older kids’ day camp was cancelled and I needed to find some help because I also have a toddler. So, there may be many young people out there whose summer jobs have fallen through who may want to be a mother’s helper.

Glad it worked out for you, but there is one teacher for a class of kid, so clearly a comparable person would not be available to work for the parents of all students.

She has two kids older than a baby. It’s possible that she’s an elementary school teacher for 25-35 kids, but she could also be a preschool teacher with a maximum of 12-16 kids and an aide. There are tons of teachers and aides available, especially since some teachers can prerecord class and check online progress in the evening. There are also tons of coaches and staff from the various before and aftercare, after school activities and summer camps.

Congratulations! Teachers make the best nannies! Your older kids are going to have a great summer while learning!

I hope you trust her to social distance before she starts and while she’s working with you. I personally wouldn’t let a relative stranger in my home with a newborn. I’d rather ask a family member whom I trust to help.

It was pretty unprofessional of the teacher to take a job with the family of a current student.

Likelihood is that school won’t resume this year and the child (and family) won’t be connected to the teacher next year. So, how is it unprofessional?

Won't be a student of hers in summer though. Plenty of teachers are summer nannies when they are younger like this

That’s great OP! With so much uncertainty, it must feel good to have something in place for the summer.

My thoughts exactly. There is zero chance I would let a stranger into my home while I have 3 kids and a newborn during this time. Is she moving in? If not, there is no way. I highly doubt a person that age is going to stay home this summer.

It's not a stranger--it's her daughter's teacher. At that age, she's not making enough to go without a summer job, so now she has one since her regular one fell through. Why do you think she won't stick around all summer? Where is there to go?
