My parents have pre-existing conditions, so unfortunately, we need to wait longer to see them which makes us all sad, but I would hate to be the ones who made them sick.

So have both been living off the food you've had in your house since March? Or have you been doing grocery deliveries? Getting Amazon and other packages? I'm not saying you shouldn't see your parents, and everyone needs to assess their own risk tolerance and make decisions that work for them and their family, but the people who act like they haven't been in contact with anyone are generally wrong in a lot of ways. Just own it.

I think that is fine.

He can see them by FaceTime.

Depends on how much you go out and how much the grandparents go out. If you are all strictly quarantining at home, then sure, having groceries delivered or picked up.

But if you are going grocery shopping every week and wandering around the store, or going other places, then no, especially if grandparents have pre existing conditions or are older.

My friend who is in her 50s, and has several autoimmune issues, is visiting her grandkids by waving to them out of the car.

My 7 yo daughter sees her grandparents often. They live down the street and don’t have preexisting conditions.

My parents have preexisting conditions. So for the foreseeable future, it’s zoom and face time only.

My parents are visiting us sometime in May. They have been staying home. We have been staying home. They will be the first people we see.

A few weeks ago I would have said absolutely not ok. But now we’ve all been totally isolated (not even grocery store trips anymore) from the outside world except grocery delivery and regular mail service. We’re all healthy, none of us have interacted with another person outside the family (even cashiers, other shoppers at stores) in 3 weeks now so now I do think it’s ok.

We are seeing my parents, my sister (and her family), and no one else. I do the grocery shopping for all 3 families and I’m pretty careful (go once a week, wear mask/gloves/clean everything before going in the house). It wasn’t feasible for us to do any other way. If we need to open our loop (have nanny come back, send kids to school, go into work) we will have to stop seeing at least my parents, but for now we feel ok with what we are doing.

If you are socially distancing and they are socially distancing then what is the problem?

It totally depends. How strict are you with social distancing, how strict are they? How far apart do you live? Any health complications? Are there other grandchildren?

Visiting a local grandma by not going into the house and staying 6 feet apart if they aren't visiting other people and you aren't visiting other people is fine. Crossing state/county lines isn't. I wouldn't go inside (even to go to the bathroom) and I wouldn't go if any of you were regularly leaving the house or were immunocompromised.
