Yep. For me it’s a nod to privacy, but mostly because my kid has a “foreign” first name that always gets autocorrected, so I just type A.

It's privacy but it's doesn't work because they will post "K got on the honors list!" and there is always someone who responds "Great job Kathleen!"

People in casual handwritten correspondence have done this through out history. It’s nothing new.

Probably 30% of my Facebook friends only post their kid’s first initial when talking abt them (“L ate a slice of pizza”). I always use my kids’ names just because it wouldn’t occur to me not to. For people who do this, is it a privacy thing? Or is it just a cuteness/simplicity thing?
