I envision large lectures given on line and smaller classes and sectionals being in person.

What makes you think that when Italy hasn’t reopened? It’s wishful thinking. And if/when things do open back up, we’ll be on lockdown again after a month because Americans are snowflakes too special to wear masks.

A big consideration for us (with a HS Senior) is what else would they do for the year. Travel is out. Jobs and internships will likely be quite scarce. I would rather a semester of on-line classes then a semester of nothing.

I don’t think small to medium-sized colleges will allow massive or unlimited numbers of deferrals. They need the money and they won’t be able to accommodate an outsized class of 2025.

It may well be the right call for your student but know that they may be required to enroll or forfeit their seat to someone on the wait list.

Advised isn't quite the right term. Mostly parents who don't want to pay the full tuition amount for online classes, if that's what ends up happening.

There are definitely people considering it and they've posted threads here. It's unclear the extent to which colleges are allowing it and the extent to which the students will actually choose to defer. Part of the likely issue is there aren't a lot of alternatives, as employment prospects are dim at the moment.

(Our state is beginning the reopening process, but it's too early to know what will happen or how long it might take to get to campuses opening. I think a lot depends on data that has yet to be developed but could be over the summer.)

Is this happening and are schools allowing it? I have read that some high school seniors are being advised to do this as it becomes more likely that classes may be online or that the college experience will be a dismal version of what it normally is. Anyone here considering this?
