What the actual f. If this kind of mismanagement is what we can count on from Bowser, we are screwed.

I live around the corner from the hotel. That does not bother me as much as the fact that this seems to be same old same old DC Govt with homeless shelters.

I am GUESSING that the hotel was contracted as well as an outside firm to run the COVID shelter. At that point, typical DC Govt SOP is to pay the contract and wash their hands of it. You would have hoped that with something as high visibility as this that there would have been a few DC Health and Human Services visits and maybe a daily virtual 'hot wash'.

From the two minutes of video footage is apparent that there is LOTS of great intent, without policy and practices to turn that intent into an effective technique for managing a quarantine site.

Hey, look at the bright side. DC EMS was certainly following their policy's. At the end of the day, that aborted run cost money and sapped readiness, but it was executed properly and the threat of further spread was reduced/eliminated in that one example.

Because it is an empty hotel.

Empty before the quarantine started? I didn't realize that. Are they planning to close or remodel it?

Well that explains all the blue rubber gloves we've been seeing on the surrounding streets. It's been windy.

This is why when I hear all of the 'Federal Government' complaining I have to roll my eyes. There is no part of this that could not have been run 100% better by competent local government. Who was in charge? If contracted, who had oversight? You have one job, run a homeless COVID quarantine site on the down low in DC. Maybe garbage disposal should have come up in the planning process or daily meeting.

Oh, and don’t let staff wear full PPE to go to restaurants, etc, off site, this potentially exposing the public to the virus.

But you have to have a policy that says that this is not allowed or why would you expect the employees to know that. Or maybe if there had been proper practices established, they should have catered meals and served then in a staff breakroom to the employees. All things that could have been worked out when a quick rehearsal run of the operation was conducted before accepting patients.

Like the other poster said. This is a local issue.

Warning: Any concern or criticism expressed about the planning and operation of the mayor’s ward-based homeless shelter program will result in the critic being shamed and silenced as “homeless-phobic.”

It’s surprising that the DC government didn’t even tell the local council member that it was operating a pop-up coronavirus facility in her ward, in her neighborhood actually.

Mayor Bowser and her administration have outdone themselves in the incompetence department, at a DC run COVID facility that is failing to follow basic health and sanitation protocols. Dumpsters at a previously undisclosed DC quarantine center for symptomatic patients at the Days Inn across Connecticut Ave Ave from Park Van Ness in Northwest overflowed with trash bags of bed linens, gloves, hospital gowns and food waste. A worker still in full PPE went to a local fast food establishment. Thanks, Bowser.

Wow, that story is pretty crazy. It looks like a case of incomplete planning (of the original COVID quarantine sight no daily trash pick up) and then no oversight or somebody in charge once it had been established (the hotel manager is not responsible for ensuring the running of a quarantine operation. Who was in charge?)

Also, a little concerning that these are simply spread throughout the city by the Health Department I suppose, but the Councilmembers were never told where they were located or how many there were and what their capacity was/is?

This just seems like a very local problem demonstrating once again our great city stumbling doing the basic stuff.
