Before/after for school-age.
I pay $340 per month per kid.

I find it surprising when people are surprised by this, too. I suspect it’s the use of credit cards and Apple Pay/amazon where we feel a disconnect for money and how it dwindles as we spend it. A friend of mine was appalled last year that I spent so much on groceries per week. When I reminded her that she eats out a lot and I cook at home a lot, she said she didn’t think that would make such a huge difference. She sent me a message a few days ago that now that they are exclusively cooking she realizes how I spent that much on groceries, but also how much they are saving.

Not OP but I didn’t expect to avoid as many expenses as I have. I don’t even know what all impulse buys I’ve been skipping but I’m the 5-6 weeks we have been actively avoiding public spaces (I got sick with suspected covid19 in early Feb) we have “accidentally” saved a few thousand.

We are amazed at how much we have saved. We used to get take out food 3 times a week because of the rush from work to after school sports and activities to back home. There wasn't time to cook.

After a month of no commute (which is 30 min each way), no dry cleaning bills, no dog walking bill, no coffees (I just drink black but still went 2x a week at least) and no lunches out (another 1-2x a week) I saved about 600 bucks. I also would get my kids drive thru treats inbetween daycare pick up and home if we hit a heavy traffic hour about once a week. What have you saved by working at home if that's your situation? For what it's worth working at home isnt condusive to my business model so it's been kinda rough otherwise so I am looking for some pluses in an unideal situation
