He has ADHD so all of the above.

Teacher again. If you're really on the fence, give them a released SOL. The standards have changed slightly in M7, but not that drastically. See what his score would have been.

I teach 7th grade algebra. Yes, absolutely--with a high IAAT score and teacher recommendation, send them.

I would say the teacher graded fairly. The mid-term and final were each 20% of the grade. Each quarters grades were just a tally of points.

My child scored a 98 and has received all advanced pass in math. We are leaning toward her taking Algebra I.

To make sure, I've bought an Algebra workbook when this all began. I ordered Spectrum Algebra grade 6-8. I am sure there are others that are just as good. She has been working on it everyday. She said the beginning was easy as it was all review. However, the concepts are getting more challenging but she is able to figure it out on her own. Also, we found Khan academy videos very helpful as well to explain something she doesn't understand.

For my child, I don't expect her to master the concepts. However, it gives her confidence to say - I've seen this before, I think I know what to do, I can figure it out. Sometimes, that is all they need.

It may be worth a try.

If your DS understands that the class will be challenging and still wants to take it, then let him take it. The worst case scenario is that he will need to drop down after first quarter or he will need to repeat the class in 8th.

My DS also got a 97. I was actually wondering about this, given how messed up the end of this school year is and with no SOL, is Algebra 1 still going to be a possibility for fall?

Sure. With a reduced schedule (if isolation continues and some after-school activities can't happen), your child will have more time to focus on it.

Yes, but if approved I'm letting my 11 year old/5th grader take Algebra.

DS scored 97 on IAAT. Since there is no SOL we have no idea how he would do. He's never scored pass advanced on a math SOL before. Last year he missed it by 1 point, but he missed it. Would you let a child like this take Algebra I Honors if the school leaves it up to parents if kids meet the IAAT threshold? His teacher has already told us she would recommend him for it, as he is more than ready.

What about the fact that school may be virtual in the fall still? Would you risk putting a 12 year old in a HS course with such uncertainty and in a virtual situation?
