Agreed- I get the feeling the French Alps aren't nearly as popular in the summer (understandably), nor as the Swiss Alps. But you get French food!

I posted this in a discussion last week, but mine is the Annecy region.

Incredible in the summer to swim in warm water surrounded by 7000 foot mountains. Watching people paraglide off the mountains over the lake, and then the next day driving up the mountain (a common Tour de France climbing stage), and watching the same paragliders as they took off.

Many will disagree, but Disney World. I was dreading going to Disney World for all the reasons people mention on here, but I had a blast and I'm now a Disney convert.

We took our kids (4 and 2) for a few days around Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party. Their cousins (6 and 8) and parents came along also and it was really perfect experiencing DW, Halloween, and the Christmas decorations through the eyes of children.

Yes, there were crowds, but they weren't overwhelming and we were able to do almost everything we wanted. I wanted to drink around the world at Epcot, but didn't get that chance.

The Dolomites are beautiful. We also like going to Modena and the surrounding area.

Paros, Greece. So much better than the more popular tourist spots like Mykonos and Santorini.

Jackson Hole and Yellowstone.

I was underwhelmed by DW but Orlando overall was better than I expected. So much fun stuff to do.

DisneyWorld. I hadn’t been in about 30 years, and we finally took the kids in February. My expectations were really low, but gosh it was a great trip and I’m so glad we went. Now I get why people like it so much. I’m a convert.

Petra. I expected it to be cool but wow it was mind blowing. I loved it. Would go back.

Instanbul, Turkey (a few years ago). However would not go now due to political unrest.

This is a spin-off of the thread about places that were a let down. Since we can't travel at the moment, tell me about a place or vacation activity that was so amazing it exceeded expectations.

I'll start. Iguazu Falls on the border between Argentina and Brazil. I was living abroad and asked for some ideas from local friends about stuff to do when my mom came to from the US to visit and narrowed the suggestions down to Iguazu. I've heard people were disappointed by Niagara so I thought it would just be time for some catching up and bonding. Not expecting to be soo impressed by the falls. They were so beautiful. We did both sides over 2 days and loved it!

Also, cruising! I had some very negative pre-conceptions about cruising and people who cruise but my DH was asked to be the best man in a wedding on a cruise ship! He said yes and then I felt obligated to go. I actually had such a good time. It was super kid friendly and there was so much to do. It was also nice to not have to have so many food options traveling with picky kids. It was really a relaxing vacation.
