The risk is that someone breaks one while you are dyeing them. Messy.

I think your best bet is to learn how to blow an egg. Gives you an intact, hollow eggshell, and you can then use the egg.

Youtube should have instructions. Just make sure you aren't sick!

Target has a plastic egg dying kit. We purchased 2, plus an extra dye set (the plastic set only comes with 3 colors). I love hardboiled eggs... but eggs are already hard to come by here, so we’re saving ours for cooking/baking.

I have never heard of dying raw eggs. My mother’s family always blew them out and then filled them with confetti.

Heh I wonder if they’d be colored when you cook them. Green eggs and ham?

Why not give it a try? If it doesn’t work then you’ll know for the future. But if you boil them and know that nobody will eat them, then they are guaranteed to go to waste.

In our family, we are not crazy about the yolk part of a hard boiled egg, unless it’s on a deviled egg or something, but we all like the egg white part enough to eat the hard boiled eggs we will boil for Easter eggs. We either throw away the yolk or feed part of it to the dog.

You can also use them in salads. I hate them on salads, but husband and son will eat them that way.

Op here. We're not going to eat the raw eggs, just put them back into the fridge and cool them later. We like to dye them.bi don't need to display them or hunt them.

But are you going to eat them eventually? That seems like a huge waste otherwise. (I had assumed you were asking so that you could eat them...)

Yes, my mom always does some raw and some hard boiled.

Op here. The fun for us is in the dying. We can hunt the plastic ones, and I don't care about displaying them.

no, you need to cook them first.

I don't think so. They'd cook slightly in the process of dying.

We have, however, been blowing out our eggs, using them for baking or scrambling, and then saving the shells for decorating. That's more of an option if you have older kids since they're pretty fragile.

We'd like to dye eggs for Easter, but no one in the family much cares for hard-boiled eggs. I hate to waste food -- is it possible to dye regular, not-hardboiled eggs, and then keep them in the fridge to scramble later?
