I thought it was cute and not too sad. I teared up a couple times but my 6 year old who cries at nearly every movie she watches didn’t shed a tear and fell asleep before it was over. I’d say my 10 year old girl liked it the most.

5 and 7 year old boys LOVED it after I talked them into watching it. They watched it twice yesterday and it's probably a new favorite.

My son loved it but I was meh about it. Still worth a watch!

Promise = premise

Although a sad promise, it was well done and did not leave me with a sad feeling. Like another poster said “ not my favorite but cute.” DD6 enjoyed it We saw in the theater. Looking forward to Trolls this Friday!

Same. I tested up a little at the end but my kids didn’t really react. My kids aren’t generally over sensitive like a lot of DCUM children seem to be. I

It really wasn't a sad movie all said and done. We laughed a lot.

I didn't enjoy it all that much but my sons really loved it. I laughed enough that I felt like it was a worthy family movie night pick. I didn't have a problem with the ending, I thought the focus on the brothers and their bond was a lovely one. I think if they had shown him meeting the dad it would have been much more emotional and sad than the way they chose the movie to end.

My kids watched it yesterday while I was doing other stuff, so I didn’t see much of it, and none of the ending. Today they mentioned they have no interest in seeing it again. And they usually ask to watch everything multiple times.

We enjoyed the movie, and I appreciated how the brothers came together in the end, and how the younger one sacrificed his time to see his dad for his older brother who needed to hear those words. We love Pixar movies in our house, and getting to see Onward early was a bit of a treat in these dark days (we never go to the actual movies even in good times)

We enjoyed it, the magical universe was fun, but it felt a bit like ‘Bright’ — not quite as much whimsey or creativity as other Disney movies.

I knew it had a bit of a sad backstory, but we weren’t prepared for really how bittersweet the ending would be. Maybe it affected us more b/c it struck close to home (we’ve talked about what we would do if one of us dies from CV). Not sure if a happier ending would have made for a better movie, but we might have liked that better.
