1 day drive gets you pretty far.

If you're looking for mountains and woods, somewhere in western MD or West Virginia.

If you're looking for water access: Western Shore of MD, Eastern Shore but in the south near Crisfield, the peninsula of MD that face the Atlantic, or one of the rivers in VA southeast of I-95

This. Some people get homes 2-3 miles from the DE beaches and just bike to the beach & amenities.

Are you retired? If you're still working then it might be hard to get somewhere that's 1 day drive away very frequently.

Bryce Resort area. Skiing, lake, mountain biking, hiking, zip lining. Less than two hours to DC. It’s cheaper than your budget. Search Basye, VA.

Also look at the western shore of the Chesapeake.

Maybe check out Cape Charles, Va or other towns along the eastern shore.

What would be a good location for a vacation home that could be reached within one’s day drive. Is 4 bedrooms possible for 300k?
