Could you think about leaving your daycare and just doing a nanny? Since it seems like this might stretch on for a long period of time maybe it is time to pivot to a new type of care?

Get a nanny. It entails a loss of some control, but you have to keep your job. You can reduce risk by adding her to the household shopping. You also have to pay her enough so that she doesn’t have to do other jobs. I would also require a car, and provide a gas allowance and be prepared to help out with repairs.

Millions have already lost their jobs, OP. Did you see how many filed for unemployment last week?

How does that help or even instruct OP?

What do you mean “if things are as they are”? You think Covid will magically disappear in 2 weeks? You’re not very bright

Calm down, Karen. OP said CAMPS meaning summer meaning mid-June. We’re going to know a lot more in the next few weeks regarding the prognosis/curve.

Now put the phone down and get some air.

If you don't get it how do you think a new person coming into your home that is looking to make money will get it? It's a tough time right now. Lots of people are losing their jobs. Working from home with young children is very difficult. I can tell you right now as a nanny there is absolutely no way you can hire a new person right now and completely trust them not to come into any contact with anyone other than you. I know this is tough OP but wait a bit before hiring a nanny. It's a complicated relationship not like having food delivered.

Our nanny “gets it”. We knew she was very smart and responsible when we first interviewed her. Her recommendations bore that out. You can tell if someone is smart enough to self-quarantine and follow CDC protocols.

1) If you have a high-paying job you could hire a 24-7 nanny and explain that you will pay her $X round-the clock for the privilege of telling her she must stay at your home at all times. But she’d only have to work 9-5 M-F and can hang out in her room watching tiktok the rest of the time. You might find someone willing to do this for like 4 months.

2) Find a family member to come live with you for a while.

3) If you have a spouse and their job is less financially critical, they quit or go part time.

I don’t think you will truly know but you’ll have to trust them. You would need to interview then and feel comfortable. I am also at the point where we may consider this.

What other options are available to you? Can a relative come and stay?

You don't. It is trust and being comfortable with some risk. We are also trying to work hard now to make sure we don't lose our jobs and currently have a nanny to take care of our child (he was in daycare - it is still open, but we aren't sending him). You have to be comfortable with some level of risk if you go that route, since there is no way to guarantee.

And we definitely need my income. Should I line up a nanny now? How do you know if the nanny is social-distancing and being responsible during off hours?
