OP here, I actually LOVE serena and lily. Only thing throwing me off are my darker floors. I would love to find a Serena and Lily room that would be a good starting point for inspiration. We aren't by the coast at all so nothing too beachy.

I think it's lovely, OP, and I say that as someone who doesn't even like red.

Way too Ralph Lauren/patriotic for me. And I would say that even if Obama were still president.

Have you considered dark brown with aqua?

My house is similar to the one op posted, with a few exceptions in the main living space:

Darker furniture and rugs - 3 boys and a dog
More navy
Red as accent, which I have been able to trade out for yellow or green if I get tired of red
More walls with color, though all light shades and NO GREY

Too many white walls for my taste, but if you like it, op, do what makes you happy.

You might want to look at serena and lilly rooms. I am getting that vibe from original post, they are a bit more casual and whimsical i think. Go with what you like, but southern classic does not have to mean uber traditional.

I love it but my living room is very similar to the one you linked - mostly blues but with some reds mixed in, definitely Americana type theme.

A way to tone down the country-cutesyness could be to cheat towards cranberry reds and tealish blues, and to use patterns that don't belong with Americana (think more botanical) and avoid checks, plaids, stripes, and contrasting piping.

Here are some pictures of what I mean:

I feel like Kathryn Ireland fabrics might be a good jumping off point for you. They have a lot of the colors you're looking for in patterns that reference different cultures and so feel less "Connecticut 1985" to me.

I think your examples seem more Connecticut 1985 than original house posted. They seem fussy.

I actually love the house you posted OP. But the suggestion that you can try out different colors like teal or more pink/orange reds is a good one.

So I have been looking at different room inspos and I am liking this one and may use as inspiration... thoughts?

to keep in mind a few things for my house..
- classic, white traditional home, very southern living look from outside with porch, porch swing and shutters
- 2 boys and 2 dogs, so we really cannot do white/pastel seating
- husband doesn't like anything too wild for home decor, his taste is more simple or what he knows (leather, blues, and he likes this one, although I could prob convince him about anyone if I am honest)
- we would have a tv in the room, although not over the mantle
- would have never thought of doing blues with red.. a little patriotic but I am surprised how much I like it
- we currently have a lot of navy, so many pieces can be reused
- we also have a lot of grey downstairs, so love that the upstairs is pretty neutral so we can reuse many of our accessories and art from downstairs
- love the classic bathrooms, we are staying in our home with no plans to move so want to do something very classic for bathroom remodels.
