Walked past a stretch where 3 of 5 houses had bears. My kids were delighted. Came home and put a bear in our window right away.

We had a successful hunt today, more bears than two days ago!

It might take a while to catch on. I only heard of this today (on FB).

+1, It was just posted on our neighborhood FB. When folks said they didn’t have kids or bears around anymore, somebody posted a drawing of a bear and lost of people said they print it out for thE windows.

Our neighborhood in Chevy Chase just did this. The idea was posted on the neighborhood listserv and a ton of people joined in. My 7yo was so excited to look for bears on one of our recent walks!

Our elementary teachers started this when school closed two weeks ago. The bears are all over town. It’s sweet. We also have lots of kid-made signs up thanking docs, nurses, and first responders.

This was posted on Nextdoor a week ago and a bunch of people in my neighborhood were excited and said that it sounded like a nice idea. Then one lady, who must not have ever read the children’s book, posted that encouraging children to kill bears was not nice at all. Pretty funny.

I’m thinking she means fake bears, like teddy bears? Everyone participates by putting teddy bears all around the neighborhood. Kids can go for walks and spot them (in trees, cars, windows, porches, they are decorated, etc) sounds like fun to me! I would participate

Oh thank you. You ladies speak strange language.

I was thinking about doing this at my house. I already have springtime window clings up. I may put a bear out, too.

Why take a walk when you can go on a bear hunt — while practicing social distancing. Look for bears in the windows and in on porches of the houses in your neighborhood and create your own bear den by putting a bear in your window. When you get home, Mark the bears on a map.
