No. I get the “teachers need to be paid “ argument. But how about the owners foregoing their margin and asking for “sustainer fee” that would cover the teachers and other fixed costs, but would not include owners’ profit margin? I think all (most) parents are asking for is some sort of recognition and a gesture.

They’re doing it because no one has asked for a tuition reduction.

So call the other parents, and together ask for a reduction.

I am at a different school that did something like what the OP describes and I was completely turned off. If they had said please donate to a fund to keep our teachers employed I would’ve reacted very differently. Instead of doing that they basically threatened people that did not pay for a service they are not receiving with a non-priority for enrollment when they reopen. Pretty gross.

THis approach would go down much better or even issuing a 25% cost reduction as a gesture to families--the school is not after all buying any food or supplies. I would even be okay with some promise not to pay full tuition for May/June because I want to be okay with it but there was zero recognition of the lost services.

Seems a little crass on their part. Waive the April fee.

Definitely. If you're an upper middle class person, keep paying low wage workers.

But if you're a billionaire or corporate CEO, STOP paying low wage workers and threaten Congress that you need bailout money.

It's not money down the drain. It's to pay the humans, the teachers who care for your children every day, so they can continue to pay their own rents, mortgage, buy food for their children. Have a heart. If you are still receiving a salary, please continue to support low wage workers who do not have the ability to work from home.

This just rubs me the wrong way so much. We're at a community nursery school that sees itself as some kind of local treasure (it's been around for a long time; low turnover; hard to get it in). It is not cheap and it's in a UMC area. How can they ask for full payment when there's no service?? You contract for the academic year when you go here. I'm tempted to burn all bridges and say we're not paying but then there's the camp issue if we go back (we're doing camp there also )and have prepaid that as well. So much money down the drain.
