Ironcially now waitlisted folks gettting more aid

If your kid likes it, she should contact them and ask for more. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Turns out let lower ranked folks in during first round and don’t really want them so not offering more aid / now how ranked wait listed folks trying to get with better offers

I'd also say that there is a ton of uncertainty in college admissions right now. For instance, most schools take a fair number of international students-- but will they come this fall? Will they be allowed in the country? Will they turn down the offer because they don't know what fall will be like (note that they will need to apply for visas by June at the latest). So I'd be surprised if many universities aren't trying to solidify their wait lists-- moreso than usual.

This is a yield protection move. They make these offers to kids they suspect will turn them down for a better-ranked school. They’ll follow through only with the kids who say they’ll come.

I think that privates may have a lower than average yield this year. Waitlist students are very qualified!

Same thing happened to my DS last spring. He played along for a while until he got the acceptance from his top choice. He would have considered going had he not been accepted to his top choice. I think University of Rochester has been doing the same thing.

They want to know if she'll accept. This is her chance to say I'm not interested so they don't have to waste their time and can move on to the next one.
