I am so sad to hear about Mr. Bos. It is not an exaggeration to say that he was my DD's favorite teacher ever. He really cared about his students and wanted them enjoy learning. Just so, so sad for his family and everyone who knew him or never get the chance to have him as a teacher.

So sad to be so alone in their grief.

Very sad. And the students can’t even gather to comfort each other.

Mr. Bos was my daughter's AP Literature teacher and he was a wonderful teacher who was passionate about teaching and cared about his students.

Mr. Bos used nontraditional methods and techniques to keep the kids engaged in tales that they'd normally find boring, he'd find creative ways to make literature relatable (ie; he'd correlate a piece from the turn of the century with the current environment of our country today) and... he would do everything in his power to help a student who needed the extra guidance (that was my child).

It is so sad and unfair that the future students of WJ will never get to have the experience of having this wonderful teacher & caring man lead them.

Thank you for sharing that. What a loss.

We received the email this morning but I didn’t realize it was a horrific car accident. How awful.

The Walter Johnson community was apprised of this and we are supporting the family with a GoFundMe (started before he passed):

The article doesn’t comment at all about the other driver. Does anyone know the story there??

I guess the news was unsurprisingly lost in all the coronavirus chaos, since the original accident happened the night after schools shut down. But I thought it deserved a mention here. Jonathan Bos, an English teacher at WJ, was going to the grocery store on 3/13 and was hit head-on and run off the road by another driver who swerved out of lane. He suffered multiple injuries, including a severe brain injury, and died at Hopkins on Thursday 3/19. He leaves behind a wife and son. They cannot have a memorial service yet due to obvious reasons.

Very sorry for the loss to his family, friends, colleagues, and students. I hope they are able to remember his life together the way he and they deserve once this is all over. It sounds like he was a well-liked teacher. And a well-known Bob Dylan enthusiast.
