OMG these nice teens are volunteering to help kids for free to be nice and people make it into a argument about money. They’re not going to ask who can pay and who can’t, they don’t even want paid, period, it says in the title. So DCUM.

With all the posts about how awful teens are, let’s not ruin their positivity! They want to give back. I think it’s great.

Yeah, I would pay a very small amount, like $.50 per minute or something, happily.

$30 per hour to a high school junior is not a "very small amount." There are lawyers who aren't making that.

Your argument is sad and irrelevant. What lawyers, even low paying ones, make has nothing to do with this girl's business and how much she charges (it's free by the way). A previous poster is saying she would pay (or donate) a small amount of money - to her (not you).

And uh, maybe those lawyers you are referencing should take this free tutoring and get a better job earning more money.

I would consider using this for a 20 minute or so reading to my 4 year old. Not actual teaching, but maybe a letter of the day type lesson? Great idea!

You kids are awesome. Here's an idea. Do this through a tutoring website and offer the lowest price you can. That way you're at least building profiles.
For example on preply.com you can charge as little as $2/hour.

Hi,

We are twins who are juniors in high school. We know that schooling is an issue right now, and since we have some extra time, we're volunteering to tutor DMV area kids and/or provide homework assistance. Of course, we won’t be able to help every child, but we want to do our part during these crazy times.

For younger kids, we can help with basic reading, math, etc. For older kids (middle school), we can help with basic to intermediate chemistry and math (pre-algebra, algebra2, and pre-calculus). We're currently taking AP chemistry and calculus but we haven't finished the curriculum yet. We can try our best to tutor that level of math/chemistry but we have a stronger grip on the earlier course material.

Obviously, tutoring in person is not a viable option given social distancing. But we are willing to work with students however they prefer, whether it's FaceTime, Zoom, a phone call, or just pictures of homework sent in an email.

We created a special email address specifically for people to contact us about this: IHSHtutoring@gmail.com

Hope everyone stays safe!
