There is so much you will deal with in life regarding health, job, family in law. And the potential for your husband to unfaithful is always there for any married woman. Why deal with someone who is poorer than you - it makes whatever you deal with much worse. As my mom, used to say to me and my sister growing up, "I can do bad by myself!"

They can, they do, and they are making money. They're graduating from college at higher rates than men as well. The point the articles is making is not that they can't find a man to support them, but that it is increasingly difficult for them, or at least more competitive, to find a financial equal.

Could you imagine a world where men did this? What would mr big say to Carrie? Sorry you just do not make enough for me to consider marrying you...we can still have sex but if another woman comes along who meets my income expectations...I will drop you!

Why can't single women make money themselves?

As a single 27YO woman who does fairly well, I wouldn't want to marry someone who made significantly less than me (not really for materialistic reasons, but want to be on an even plane if one of us decides to stay home with kids or if for whatever reason one of us becomes unable to work). Also, I find the majority of men my age somewhat immature (not in a bad way, just not ready for marriage).
