VT has a better name? With whom?

I'm from flyover country and VT is more well known there than W&M, mainly because of engineering. W&M is known among the private school set as is UVA but not broadly as VT.

VT's business school attracts A LOT of companies for internships and graduates. WM has a great reputation as well. To me, this comes down to what environment you want to study in. If you want a large college, school spirited education, go to VT. If you want a small, intellectual environment, go to WM.

He's going for business how intellectual of an environment could he be going for.

Well, that depends on if he’s going for “business” or accounting

Definitely VT. Much better name, great campus life and better job potential due to the variety.

Note that the tuition to WM business is higher than other schools at WM. Not cool.

One thing to consider, WM is quite expensive for an in-state school.

At VT, there is a lot of variation in difficulty. Business at Tech was populated (when I went there) by people who washed out of engineering. Not sure what that means for quality. I had a girlfriend in early childhood education and her workload was much lighter than my STEM workload.

I think all of the colleges are planning on creating "virtual" experiences for the admitted students, so for the OP who didn't have a chance to visit Tech, keep an eye out for that.

Ha. This is us, too. We visited both, and while both are very different, it seems like my DD sees things she likes about both. It's nice to have so many great in state choices!

They are very different. My dd has friends at both. The ones at VT are a wide variety, the ones at WM are mostly quieter and calmer types. If he’s looking for a more traditional sports/party/Greek college experience he needs to go with VT. If he isn’t interested in that, he could be fine at either.

My son is deciding between both colleges. We have only visited W&M and were planning to attend a VT visit before all got canceled. He is looking to study business. Have heard great things about both colleges. We have heard VT has a great campus life and school spirit. Would love to know if anyone can elaborate on W&M.
