You do need to keep the puppy on a leash, with you all the time.

Train the dog not to chase- you need to do this anyway. Till then dog on short leash or crated around cat.

In the past I've introduced new kittens to my older dogs, but now it's the reverse: I have a new puppy (14 week English Mastiff) and a 2 year old cat. Puppy is very excitable and goes nuts when she sees Kitty, wants to chase, and Kitty understandably freaks out. How should I proceed?
