With what money? The insurance carriers will not assist a school unless ordered by the state. The state has urged preschools to stay open. You want a small business to use all of its emergency funding to give you a twenty percent decrease for a month and pay a teachers and rent and all other costs and then what happens the next month? They go out of business is what happens or lay off all of their teachers. If they do this when it’s time to return it will take a long time to restate the school. Therefore, your ability to get your kid back in a spot will be extended much longer if they decide to have you return. Also keep in mind other preschools will be in the same boat. Stop being an unsupportive and miserly parent. You’re still getting paid. I am sure you’re one of the parents that says they support the teachers when things are going well. Now is the time to anti up and support the school so they can support the teachers. I agree however that if they don’t pay the teachers you should get a large discount as it is a school’s largest expense. But if they are still open and you choose to self quarantine, the burden is on you.

You obviously don’t understand how small business or preschools work for that matter. Salaries and rent are the largest expenses in a preschool. If they are closed they may be saving on some snacks and lunches, if offered, and some arts and crafts. That’s doesn’t make up a large amount of money for the month. Definitely not enough to handle a ten to twenty percent decrease in tuition. I can promise you that the director is not making out during this time. The school by giving discounts is working off of very little reserves in the hopes that the pandemic will end soon. Also most directors and admin at schools that are closed are still there working on reviewing and assisting with lessons plans, videos, etc., that they receive from their teachers at home for the children that are home. Wake up. If your cheap and non supportive, just say it. You’ll gain more respect that way. Don’t continue to be a narrow minded jerk.

Also, check your school’s 990. You might be surprised how much the owner/director of these Montessori schools pulls in and how much cash they are sitting on.

This exactly. They should not profit during this time and I suspect they are. At the very least lunches and after care should be refunded.

Wow! Good luck transitioning your child to another school. All schools are having difficulty. Your child will be the one to suffer when he/she can’t be with the same teachers who love him/her.

What? Why? They still have staff and bills to pay like you. You’re still getting paid working from home correct? Do you want t m to be viable when you need their services when this blows over? Don’t exploit the situation because you’re frugal. It’s one thing if this had been months of non use in your preschool. It’s another now. You are obviously not an understanding or supportive parent. SHMS in Reston is not giving a refund and not continuing instruction. Given, my two kids there are in preschool, so continuing instruction virtually is not as important as with our FCPS elementary kids, but a refund would be nice.

What irks me even more is that they wouldn't even refund my aftercare.

Needless to say, we won't be back there again!

Do you think Montessori schools will issue partial refunds? Especially if on top of tuition you’re paying for extended day? Ours says they are reopening on April 13th which seems odd because the county (Fairfax) isn’t promising anything. The school is flush with cash and there can’t really be distance Montessori learning.
