INOVA has none for a month, and none in Maryland anyway. I am willing to donate blood if anyone has a way to tell me where to go!

Also search at the Red Cross - there are lots of locations taking blood.

The link was to the Red Cross - but when you try to choose an event, they are all cancelled. And when I called the 1 800 number suggested by the Red Cross website, there were nearly 100 people ahead of me in the queue, so that will take forever.

Not sure how you're searching, but try this: https://www.redcrossblood.org/give.html/find-drive

Lots of stuff shows up when I search by zip code.

That link goes to a list of blood drives, but they have all been cancelled. Where do we donate then?

All blood types are useful. Some more than others, sure, but all are useful.

Universal receiver. My blood gets thrown away.

That's not a thing. Every blood type can donate to someone.

You are another universal receiver. They just throw the blood away.

Well, thank you for your very useful response, then.

Point is, not everyone needs to give blood. Not everyone’s blood is useful.
Thanks, Captain Obvious! We had no idea! We all clearly thought this thread was addressing every, single person in the world.

This is a good time to donate as a first timer. I donate 2x a year, but I think this is a great time to try and do something to be helpful if you feel helpless. If newbies have questions, feel free to ask. I'm donating next week.

We are facing a blood shortage. I know we are facing a lot of shortages right now but this is one we can all help with. It is not specific to COVID-19 but people still need blood.

Obviously stay home if you are high risk or care for someone who is. But if you're home and able to make an appointment, you can do so and safely donate while maintaining appropriate social distance and other precautions.

Thanks!
