Not surprised by the scenario (which was described in a somewhat long-winded way as the NYT is wont to do). This happens far more often than people think, but may be kept quiet for various reasons, not the least of which is expensive litigation down the road.

This is also a really well-written story- not shocking since the writer is a professor in creative non-fiction. I couldn’t stop reading.

If you’re looking for a riveting read, read this story. It made my jaw drop. I’m not in academia but I have many friends who are and going to these lengths (filing false Title IX allegations) to take out job competition is just, wow.
