Your risk of catching this thing outside in rural Mississippi is vanishingly low. Your risk of serious complications even if you do manage to get it somehow are quite low. Your risk of depression and other mental health problems from being so stressed is quite high.

That's what I've told him. He says since Europe is on lockdown, we should do the same.

We are avoiding outside areas where lots of people may have been since the virus can linger in the air for 3 hours.

Not visiting the tidal basin this year or going to the school track by our house (it's been very busy). Instead, we looked up more parks and trails where we live and explored those. We did two this weekend where we were the only ones there.

We also picked a school that isn't near any homes and went to their track yesterday. Again, we were the only ones there.

Have we really gotten to the point where people think you catch the virus by standing outside in your yard? Or in a big open park, with no one nearby?

And as soon as people start dying from ventilator shortage, we’ll be on lockdown too.

They are on lockdown. We are not.

Much more densely populated too. Cafes/businesses/etc are much more crowded, so there's no way you could be 10' away from others.

It's totally fine to go outside! Just avoid very crowded areas and try to keep your distance. The chances of you getting covid from passing someone several feet away for 1 second are nil. Risks go up if, for instance, you're in a throng of people clamoring to get the same angle for their cherry blossom photo.

We went hiking this past weekend at great falls. We tried to keep away from people but we definitely passed people on paths. I drove in DC today and saw people jogging and walking around the memorials. It wasn’t jam packed like a typical peak bloom cherry blossom festival but people were definitely out and about.

Is it ok to be outside?

I don’t want to meet people and socialize. I want to take a stroller walk. We would walk past people jogging, cycling or walking their dog.
