I like Maura (though I like Ethel too), but one caution about Rory as a nickname.

My BIL's name is Rory, and over the years I've noticed that many people have trouble saying it - its the 2 Rs so close together, the same problem that some people have with the word "rural."

I like it. There's also "Mara."

I really like Maura. I wouldn’t use a nickname, although I do think Rory is cute.

Here! That’s my name. It’s been a great name. There are occasionally people who mispronounce it (mah-rah rather than the way I pronounce it, more-uh) but for the most part I get compliments on it often.

Welcome your little Maura Rose. (I really think the name itself is lovely and does not need a nickname.)

Oh, and you didn't ask for this, but for my own taste, I would do something more fun as a middle! Every girl baby born in the last 10 years is going to be middle name Rose or Grace. If you pick a relative classic like Maura, maybe a more interesting middle? Those two and a few others are the "Lynns" and "Maries" of previous generations. Filler names. I'd personally go a little more bold on the middle if you're so inclined!

Rose is a family name picked for a special reason not being trendy, but I appreciate the feedback.

It is MUCH, MUCH better than Ethel. I don't like it, but if I were in charge of Baby Names, I would allow Maura.

if you like Rory as a nickname, you could also consider Aurora.
