This is a hard choice but the best choice for now.

Goodness. Do you have a support network (friends)? Are you local to DMV?

+1. Luckily my sister agreed to drive 12 hours and move in with us for a month. I am so grateful! Both DH and I are in the medical field and my mother (who always is our backup) was told by her doctor not to babysit our kids.

I hope it works out for you other “essential” working couples. So many simply don’t get it.

DS, 1st grade, is closed until April 17. Our hospital has nothing in place for Monday or has said anything. I don’t know what we’re going to do for a month.

I thought I heard Bowser (or was it Hogan?) say that care would be provided for first respondents and essential occupations including Healthcare workers.

Can you see if your private may be mandated to follow suit OR can you qualify for the public option?

I am a doctor with an outpatient clinic. I will be managing everything I can by telephone. I have a laptop with all of my patient charts at home. DH is working in the ICU.
I have offered to as many people as I can think of to watch their children. I’m sorry that you have to ask, and people aren’t just offering, OP.

DH is a surgeon. I’m a SAHM of 3. In my 5 years of being home, no one has ever asked me to watch their kids. Sure, I carpool and we will do play dates but never for childcare.

DH has several dual physician families and they are scrambling. The ones with young elementary is the toughest because they can’t stay home some and they don’t have a nanny because of aftercare.

All kids are off school. Do you have any teens or college kids in the neighborhood you could pay to watch your kids? My FB feed is filled with offers to babysit.

ICU nurse here...bleaching and hoping! Husband is able to telework and understands that he is on kid detail if I have to be working extra. 3 cases currently confirmed at my hospital.

Our private school and daycare may close. My parents, our usual back-up care, both have lung conditions that make them unable to help. DH and I both work in the hospital.

What is everyone else in our position doing?
