I’m 10-99 and there is no possibility of telework. I will not make any money if the daycares close and have little savings. I’m still for closing though. Better now than after all are exposed. We have just enough to pay daycare and I’m ok continuing to pay tuition to keep school afloat in interim. I’d much rather lose a few weeks income than neighbors or family.

Unlike the public school system, parents pay for daycare (more than rent for us). We will still have to pay tuition if daycare closes and we already have no paid leave available after taking what we'd saved up as parental leave.

Doctors, nurses, and hospital staff have kids too. It's not an easy decision.

For parents who work hourly, shutting down schools and them being unable to work means they don't get paid. A lot of people could struggle to pay their bills.

Sure, when your healthcare provider is forced to work at home.... Or the people running your covid test.... or delivering your groceries to you

If we had a functioning federal government, or a somewhat-competent president, we would be COORDINATING these steps.

President* should have gone on TV yesterday and said "we're closing schools and all employers should allow work from home. This is a crisis but we will get through it, with some sacrifice from everyone".

Tell your employer your forced to stay home.

Some parents have to work. Good for them to stay open.

People are quick to say shut this, close that ....as long as it doesn't really inconvenience them. If they can work from home, then they advocate shutting businesses, if they have kids in daycare, they want the daycares open. People just want their lives to be

People who work aren't going to want their inconvenience of figuring out childcare for young kids so their desire to flatten the curve stops where their inconvenience starts.

Everyone is going to want to keep open the things that fit with their life and lifestyle and needs. If you have a job where you can't work from home, then you don't want your job to lay you off and shut down. If you are a SAHP then shutting daycares sounds like a good idea.

I’m interested in this discussion- obviously they want to stay open to collect revenue and pay their staff. But it does seem like they should do their part to flatten the curve.

In Loudoun, schools were closed and day cares just advertised camps. Kind of defeats the purpose.
