My guess is they're making offers to the A team, then B team on a rolling basis. What's a reasonable amount of time before reaching out to the coach to see result? Don't want to be obnoxious, but also trying to plan sleepaway camp, family vacation, etc. Thanks!
I can’t speak for this but with Va Elite, kids heard when tryouts were done. It seemed like the coaches had done most of the recruiting before tryouts. Do others find this to be true? If that’s the case, my guess it is hard to break into teams. I’m not sure if that’s when they start fielding B teams. The whole process is very unclear.
We only have experience with two teams and it wasn’t this year but from one, it seemed like the team was decided before tryouts. DD got an offer from the B team about 2-3 days after tryouts ended.
Our other experience was with a different team and there were two tryouts. That offer came at the end of the 1st tryout. She was asked to attend the 2nd tryout anyway but was assured she had a spot on the team. It made us wonder if they usually are decided prior or really at the first tryouts.
Follow up if it’s been that long and you want to know.
I'm the poster wondering whether to reach out to the coach. My kids' experience with soccer tryouts has always been an offer during tryouts or within a few days, so this does seem long. Also agree that I think most of the recruiting seems to have been done in advance. Basketball really feels like you need an in or to know certain people to find out about tryouts, open gyms, etc.

Fairfax Stars and NoVA 94 Feet already finished tryouts and selected teams. My DS earned a spot on a NoVA 94 Orange team (hooray)!
Go to the other basketball threads to look for AAU teams in your area and check their twitter feeds. Some teams host tryouts in late spring or Fall.
Sure, but keep in mind the highly selective part. My kid went to tryouts for a similarly competitive team in the spring of his 7th grade year and felt like he was the only kid there who couldn't dunk (of course he wasn't, but some kids could, which kinda shocked me for 7th graders). If your kid makes a Team Durant team, awesome. If not, be aware that there are many levels of basketball below that level and kids can find a team at their level.
Also, there may be some shuffling of teams as kids who made teams don't commit, so it might be worth reaching out to coaches.
