UF is selective because of its location, in the same way as UCLA.

I went to UF. I didn't venture that much into the city. The university is so huge and there is so much to do I didn't miss being in a city. When we wanted to escape we headed to Orlando or Tampa or Fort Lauderdale. And it was only an hour to the beach.

My time on that campus was the most sheer fun of my life.

They are both great schools. My DH went to Georgia. My daughter went to Florida. Florida is much more selective. In my opinion, Athens is a nicer town than Gainesville.

UF grad here. As previous posters have stated, UF is a very highly ranked and selective school. I also grew up in Gainesville. Great city. Lots of opportunities.

Thank you..... yes, it feels good and I think he feels fortunate to have gotten in. Our daughter applied two years ago with very similar stats and she did not get in. You never really know what makes these admission reps tick. She ended up at Ohio State and she absolutely loves it there. He applied as well, but they have yet to offer any scholarships. This is my last one and I am just glad all of this nonsense will be over. It is absolutely insane how crazy and $$$$ sending a kid to college.

We visited UF last year and loved it. DS did not have the numbers to get in, so congrats to your kid. I would choose that in a heartbeat.

Thank you all for your honest feedback. What I am seeing is exactly what I thought. I think both schools will provide a pretty similar spirited experience and based on what I am seeing, UF is the highly higher ranked but UGA is not that far behind. Neither one is an easy admit. But I think based on some of the responses here, UF might be the better known outside of the Georgia and Florida bubble. They are both fairly regional, but UF might have the farther reach. Another key difference might be that UGA is more a Southern University although it tends to pull a lot of the kids from the Atlanta suburbs. Florida has more diversity.

UF

Better school, but significantly larger student population.

Slightly less insular, meaning not as conservative as Georgia.

Job opportunities are better coming out of UF they have a better career center.

This all said you student must be able to handle the administration at a large school. Classes at both schools can be hard to get. Make sure they do not have to matriculate to the business school, that's a deal breaker in my book. Dorms are very over crowded for freshman at both schools, like Penn State can end up in a study hall with ten other students. Florida does a lot of triples in the dorms for freshman.

Greek life is slightly more of a thing at GA than UF.

I went to UF and loved it so I’m a bit biased, but I can’t imagine a better experience.

I went to UF, and the majority of my friends' kids go there. It's a big state school with the big state school opportunities. Most every major you can dream of.

I loved it there. Overall, Florida is less conservative than Georgia, too.

Athens is a wonderful, funky, friendly college town. Just a different atmosphere from Gainesville. No particular insight into the schools' business programs, though, sorry.

Son was accepted to both of these schools in order to study business. The COA will be about the same. We visited UGA a couple of years and we are planning to UF in the next couple of weeks. Excited about both, but just wondering if anyone here has any kids at either one of these schools.
