Great academic reputation where it matters and it has D1 sports! Though US News rankings aren't the be all end all, the ranking drop was due solely to the # of Pell Grant kids in 2010-11 (and their comparative performance vs the rest of the student body) which was an anomaly that school year. Davidson is still the same school and arguably the best small liberal arts college in the South.
