They clearly need to offer a BEGINNER's class at that gym. You should suggest that to your instructor.

Poor thing. The class was a bit much for her and she probably couldn't keep up with everyone.

Was this a first or second class? If so, you need to be a little patient. That lady probably didn't realize the type of class that she had signed up for.

There are plenty of Silver Sneakers and other classes designed for that age group in gyms now. What’s more some older people can keep up fine if they are long time exercisers. It’s not fair to others to stand there like a column while everyone else moves.

This is not an old people thing - plenty of younger people in group ex classes have a terrible sense of space. You don't have to be super coordinated or a great dancer, but just move in the direction people are moving. If that's too hard, then classes are really not for you.

I agree with you OP. I will get within millimeters of hitting them (but avoid hitting them). You gotta move with the flow in these kinds of classes.

And for the love of god, remember your starting position. It's not 3 feet to the left and 2 feet back from where you started.

If she doesn't move and the instructor says to move then I hit her. I tried to go around and almost hit someone else. There was nowhere to go--the room was full and I was really irked because I find that most classes don't have a lot of locomotion in them anymore.

Yes, this happens all the time. you just have to accept stuff like this in an open class. There will always be a dope who goes the wrong way or has no sense of their body in space and time. God bless them.

My solution is to hang in the back or far side of the room. There is usually more room back there and fewer idiots.

That's really weird. I took Zumba for years, and don't think I can remember that happening - especially in a class like that where you are moving all over the place. I would do my best to work around her, and hope she doesn't return!

I do hate when people come in late to a class and just plop themselves right in front of you. That's super annoying.

I don't understand your post. Like, the person is just standing there not engaging in the moves?

Ugh, I hate this. Last time it happened the person didn’t come back. They might have realized the class wasn’t for them. I would just keep it moving and hope they get the hint.

Did you ask her to move over?

I don’t mean move over to make you a spot. I mean it’s a class like Zumba or Bang or whatever and the instructor teaches a routine with movement across the floor. This happened to me yesterday with an older person. Lots of movement throughout the class and she doesn’t and the class is full. I wanted to run her over. I’m serious about my workout. She was talking up space.
