The shower is probably split 50/50 between my friends about my age (and their kids) and family or family friends who are my parents generation. Everyone among the older crowd uses email. Her preference for paper is just related to her formal entertaining style -- ie she providing the glassware, tablecloths and cloth napkins, etc. for the party.
FWIW I do plan to do paper birth announcements after the baby arrives.
