It makes now sense why some kids that are selected for elite team like ECNL when they lack skills and are not at elite level. The club favors the scouts kid and the scout invites the club players to NTC.

Someone on the ODP thread mentioned corruption... let’s take a vote which is more corrupt: US Club Soccer vs US youth soccer.

It means that there may be 20 players all equal, and some get the invite and some don't. Some clubs are more heavily represented. When my DD used to go, we saw more players from an ECNL team that was in the bottom third of the conference than from teams better placed. Now, they were ECNL players. And ECNL and DA girls are generally speaking at a higher level, but you can't tell me the losing team has a larger number of better players. That's politics.

Daughter went to the special recommended speed and agility trainer. Parent campaigned relentlessly to coach. Parent called local scout and updated the progress of her daughter. Ta Da! Call up within a month.

Oh yeah, and I know coaches who lobby for their players relentlessly, or throw a fit when they get cut. It is political. And it's also political if a player goes and gets played where they will shine or is put some random position they have never played.

When my kid attended a bunch of these, he recognized kids from several other teams he'd played against, and all of them were the kids he thought were the best on their teams. One of these scouts will come to your game. They have received a list before from the coach of who should be selected. They then pick. They do NOT look outside the coaches recommendations. It's completely political.

If your DD gets an invite, it must be merit.
If your DD doesn't get an invite, it must be politics or the coach playing favorites.

US soccer has a scouting department, Clubs will typically give names for scouts to watch. Scouts choose who is selected.

The National Trainings center is to Identify national team prospects.

Very few will make it to a full camp
