If you live around Park View (and depending on your commute) I'd also take a look at Langley (it's not far from DC Prep Edgewood, which is on your list). Not immersion, really warm, nice vibe, strong sense of community, and a really high rate of growth in the test scores. Good luck!!

How do you feel about Breakthrough's Takoma campus? You'll be moved there pretty quickly.

What about Bethune? It gets mixed reviews but the more recent reviews I have heard seem pretty good.

We've known two families who have been happy at AT-CH. It tends to clear its waitlist (or very close to it) so it is a useful safety (people are generally turned off by the lack of outside space and having to re-lottery for K).

With DC Prep and AT-CH I don't think you need any other safeties.

It sounds like you have a good grasp of this already but always good to remember that "highly regarded/difficult to get into" is not the same as "good school/good school for you or your particular child."

The other thing to keep in mind is that DC Prep is the only safety school on your list. If you draw a middling number (or worse), it will be your only option. Based on last year's data, you need a number in the top 50% of lottery pulls to have a shot at Breakthrough, your next "most likely" option.

Yes, English dominant. Thanks for the additional suggestions, I'll take a look. I'm ok with a commute to Brookland, my work schedule is flexible so at least pickup could be not at rush hour.

I'm thinking Bruce Monroe is the true preference over the others because of proximity.

Also if we don't add the Brookland schools how would we get to 12? I was considering Appletree Columbia Heights but another parent had negative feedback so I got turned off.

A number that is not good enough to get you into BM (IB - assuming English Dominant) is unlikely to get you into others ranked lower (DCB, IT, others). That's not a good reason to put them higher if that's not your true preference, just an observation.

I wouldn't add any of the Brookland schools unless the commute is doable.

Any feedback welcome. Trying to solve to (1) proximity/commute (2) the feel I got at the open house (3) feedback from current parents to the extent I have it.

I got a great feeling from Bruce Monroe but was a little skeptical of full Spanish immersion. Would appreciate any feedback on the full immersion model vs bilingual. Regardless, I think our kid would be happy there and it's the most convenient but I know it's not a sure thing.

I wasn't able to visit DC Prep Edgewood, Lee Montessori or Stokes. Just trying to fill out the list and scores looked good.
