Thanks for your help, guys!

18:32, DH mentioned the mouse droppings, too, and luckily we didn't see any of those. I hadn't used my car for a week, but who knows how long ago the napkins had been eaten. Looks like I'm taking it to a mechanic (though I did do my annual inspection 2 weeks ago and no one mentioned anything then, so perhaps it's a recent development).

Mouse had babies on the top of my engine block once. Car was parked outside and apparently warmth and shelter from cold weather made it a perfect spot. Found when I took the car in for oil change. In MOCO md.

Mice invaded a friend’s car regularly. She lived in dc and had a parking garage. She didn’t drive every day. She had to set traps inside her car. Yes, gross. But do what you need to do.

You're from Michigan right?

Unless you check often (the napkins were fine a few days ago etc) I would not be worried about mice absent any other evidence. Get a blacklight and look in glove box and nearby, and lift hood and check there too. for peace of mind.

Could well be that one of the kids did this, or a passenger or something else strange.

Did you find any mouse droppings? They tend to poop while they eat (as well as other times) so if they've been munching even just to tear something up there could be droppings. That would confirm, but I'd still assume rodents. Mice and rats do get into cars.

I would take it to a mechanic you trust for a professional inspection as soon as you can, because if you or DH missed a chewed wire you could have real trouble later. A layperson just looking under the hood is not going to catch it if there are wires in the engine that have been nibbled. A good mechanic will not bat an eyelash at the request. They have seen things inside engines that you can't imagine!

I made an interesting discovery in my car's glove compartment today. I was looking inside for some paperwork when I noticed that the napkins I had in there were chewed, as though by little animals, and ripped to shreds. DH says that it could be mice, and we checked under the hood, but everything looks pretty clean there. The car itself is clean, too; no food or debris. The aux cords and phone charger cables are intact.

Has anyone else had a similar experience recently, and if so, how did you deal with it (e.g., did you buy certain sprays or traps, etc)?
