I second this suggestion. my other kids learned to read much easier, but for my last daughter, when she was struggling, this was the only program that helped.

Bob books, lots of books around the house, reading to them daily

Wasn't trying to teach them but they picked up from reading Dr. Seuss books. When we read together, i pointed to words on the page as we went and they just picked it up eventually. Go dog go and some others I can't recall with lots of repetition and variations of words and phrases did the trick.

Read a lot to them right from the time they were born. They learned alphabets and sounds in Kindergarten and were fluent readers by the end of KG.

Mine picked it up very easily but we read a lot and pointed to the words, did closed captioning for videos and other stuff and did a lot of learning videos like Leap Frog and Preschool Prep that teach reading. Some kids do better with sight words, some do better with phonics and some do better with a mix so you need to figure out what works best for your child. If mine didn't pick it up easily I'd probably do the teach your kid to read. We hated the bob books and choose ones they were interested in but bob works well too.

I read to them a lot, and we did Bob books and simple CVC words. My kids all really learned to read in kindergarten though.

My DD learned to read at a very young age, long before kindergarten. I didn’t try to teach her, but she just picked it up on her own. I started reading books to her when she was a baby, though.

When she was a toddler, she got really mad that her older brother could read and I think it motivated her to learn. I’m still amazed when I think about it.

And aside from reciting the alphabet, I taught letter recognition and letter sounds at the same time.

I’d like to teach my child to read. There seem to be so many methods out there that I was hoping for advice on the best method for a preschooler.
